CARDIFF CITY
January 25th, 2012
Hey my hometown football team got to the final of the Carling Cup, which is no-mean-feat, teams from Cardiff Citys division aren’t supposed to reach the wembley final, they are supposed to be canon fodder for the premiership teams. They are basically the underdogs and there is nothing better than supporting the underdogs, they got nothing to lose, but everything to gain. I personally take a lot of hope from what I saw today, I view myself as the underdog, a street-wear label coming out of Wales, making headway in the most saturated market there is. I’m not supposed to be here, but I got nothing to lose, just a whole lot of fight. Cardiff take on either Manchester City or Liverpool in the final, we find out who tomorrow, I really don’t care which one, were not supposed to be there anyway.
RUSKO WEARING DRONEBOY IN LATEST VIDEO
January 20th, 2012THE MILK KILLS CITIES
January 20th, 2012I know these been out a while, but going to see The Guns the other night in Undertone reminded me to take another look. ‘The Milk’ which is the comedy wing of Alex from the guns personality put these together for the ‘Rookies’ DVD by local skate company Kill City, support our Newport brothers by buying Kill City from Freestyle in Newport. Funny as F*@K.
Phil Ball RIP
January 11th, 2012
Today Facebook kinda proved its worth, today we remembered one of the best loved characters from our scene in Cardiff. A lot of the people who came together virtually to remember, I don’t see that often so it was nice to know we all are on the same page for a couple of thoughts today. Phil Ball aka DJ Risk was part of the first wave of DJ’s gathered together for Aperture (a drum & bass night I ran in the city for a while), he was probably the loudest most obnoxious DJ in the city, but what made him most loved is that everything he stood for and everything he said was wired straight from his heart. Me and him had a few run in’s, close to fighting on more than one occasion, but the incidence were never remembered the next day. He was one of those people who couldn’t get out of fifth gear, he wouldn’t change down and had not much room for compromise. One of the most vivd memories I have, is swapping his set time to a slot that required a mellower tempo, so as not to upstage the main act or make the night peak to early, did he? Fuck No, just gave me a wry smile that said “I told you not to change my set time”. Three years bro, seems like yesterday, Miss you.
ASTROID NEW VIDEO
January 2nd, 2012Astroid Boys – Struggle for Power
The Astroid Boys new video – Struggle for power. Its weird when you see your friends get to a certain point in their career, just when they are on the cusp of making it, the tipping point, especially within the entertainment industry, things get warped. I’ve been lucky enough to have a few friends get to unprecedented levels with in this industry (ow!!! Name drop – Lost Prophets and High Contrast). It didn’t happen to Lincoln so much but the former definitely heard the sounds of sneer and scorn come from the circle in which they were born. Phil & Benji have definitely reached a point in our city where most people know who they are, through a mutual love or hate. I personally love their energy and hate when people give unconstructive criticism or worst still have an opinion without even listening. Be sure to give this track a listen before you pass judgement, whether you love them or hate them they are going to be busy this year – the marmite boys.

Miffy Shaw – Super Tough
Wow what a year, super highs, mega lows. Quit Aperture, A drum and bass night I built from the ground up, ran for five years and has basically built the person I am today, it’s my social circle, my opportunity giver, both for myself and others. I loved it with everything, loved everyone involved but was time to move on, time for new blood. I gave it to long time friend Dan Harris to run and what a job he has done, as healthy as ever and gives me a place to act like a drunk monkey every two weeks (I still DJ there – unbelievably). Split with my fiance and best friend of seven years so that she could go follow her dreams of working/modelling for Playboy, at least it wasn’t the milkman or a DJ, dreams are super important and deserved to be chased Hard. Got sponsored by Red Bull to put artwork up in my favourite club in the world (not the biggest or most blinging) Welsh Club, produced a Shepard Fairey (an idol of mine) esqe piece that i’m super proud of. Got a phone call that made me spit orange juice over my computer, on the other end was Goldie asking me to produce a set of designs Metalheadz, I believe I smashed it, to have an artist like Goldie loving your work was the greatest feeling ever. Photographed two single covers for my best friend High Contrast, one out now, one coming in February, we also made a music video together ‘The First Note is Silent’ (see below) which was definitely my favourite project I have been involved with, roping in family and friends to produce a something so personal and beautiful was such a privilege. Started my friend James Watts up in the t-shirt game, with his project ‘So Ghetto’ big things coming from him. Worked closely with friends and controversial mad-heads Astroid Boys, loads of love for those guys, produced a collaboration with Brutality will Prevail – fucking rad!!!. At the moment i’m producing a suit to be worn by London Elektricity for early next year and just got a skateboard from Alien Worksop to work on, a few projects that I gotta keep close to my chest but will be dope, produced four new lines for DroneBoy and each new on being my favourite, stoked and Trash Talk crashed round my house.
Also need to shout my Sister (in law, but really my sister) Miffy. She been fighting in intensive care for a while, in-which she has been admitted twice this year, fuck what a fighter, toughest I know, given me a new perspective on life (not in a cheesy way). Miffy is now in her own room reading magazines and talking to my brother about the house they will develop in January, three weeks ago the doctors told us she was as good as dead, welcome home Sis, next year we will have some good times. Viva 2012 I feel it will be a smasher.
Thanks to everyone who shared the highs, everyone who helped dust me off in the lows, everyone new and old in my life – Big-ups

MY FAVOURITE THINGS OF 2011
Cinema:-
TREE OF LIFE by Terrence Malick
MELANCHOLIA by Lars Von Trier
These films are polar opposites one made me feel like taking on the world, the other made me feel physically sick and claustrophobic in the cinema, in hindsight I loved that a piece of cinema could make me feel this way but when I was in the picture house I wanted to batter the director Lars Von Trier and shake hands with Terrence Malick. Both really good, both deserve a concentrated watch.
