MAY DJ

May 15th, 2012

You can catch me twice this month DJing in Cardiff, firstly for my beloved Aperture, holding down the second room, namely the DroneBoy Lounge, where I will be playing obnoxious hip hop for those wild youths of Aperture. The Kasra logo at the top has just been accepted by Kasra even thought I designed two years ago, sometimes things just need to be looked at with fresh eyes. At the end of May i’ll be supporting DZ Deathrays, me and Mikee the bookings guy at Buffalo discovered these in SXSW by accident we got to a show too early to see Trash Talk and we were blown away by these guys. Love playing for both Aperture and Buffalo have deep roots with both so always an honour, flyers below – come hang out.

SpaceGhostPurrp

May 15th, 2012

Floridian rapper and producer SpaceGhostPurrp has dropped the first video in anticipation of his forthcoming debut album Mysterious Phonk: The Chronicles of SpaceGhostPurrp which arrives June 12. Love the lyrics to Black God, inspiring for anyone wanting to make some of themselves – independently.

Looking at all these people man
This society made by robots, this society
You know they wanna get this money
So they turn us into hamsters
Living this everyday cycle
Living like programmed machines
To go to bed at certain times
So they can get a paycheck and work shitty hours
This is the reason I do this
So I’m sure my family don’t have to do that
So we can have independent businesses
Ain’t no jobs out here anyway..

DroneBoy RoadRunners

May 1st, 2012

Last year we produced our first charity t-shirt to help provide the wages to teach a classroom full of pupils in India for one year. We achieved this goal by selling 52 t-shirts, the profits from each represented a weeks teaching bill, through the help of ‘The Safe Foundation’. This year we wanted to do something different, rather than use our design skills we wanted to feel the work we were putting in, so now were gonna run our first half marathon.

We have known The Safe Foundation years before they concieved the idea, we have followed them from start up to major player, providing much needed help to small communities all over the world overcome hardship. The stories and tales they bring back from some countries are heartbreaking so this is our way of helpng them, help other people out.

LOVE IT IF YOU COULD DONATE.

LUNG

April 30th, 2012

Our boy James Ellaway aka Lung has been producing bangers for years, a resident of the now defunct Neuropol nights and still playing regularly at Aperture in Cardiff, we first knew that Lung wasn’t just of the pot, but something special when Alicia at Kokeshi released the much imitated ‘Afterlife’, since then James has been hard at work in the studio producing cross genre beats until Med School saw what we all saw and signed him exclusively. We have heard snippets on High Contrasts latest album, through their collaborations but only now, a year after the deal can we see the fruits of his labour. This is the lead track from his debut EP ‘Why does anybody ever do anything?’ garnering massive support, “Another gem on the excellent Med School Music label” – Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1) & “This is stirring electronic soul from one to watch” — Mixmag (4 out of 5) this is just the tip of the iceberg. Make friends with him http://www.facebook.com/lungdnb and then type in Lung on the iTunes store.

Makoto & Deeizm

April 24th, 2012

This month Aperture brought down my two favourite people in drum and bass, Makoto & Deeizm, not only are they the most lovely people to be around, but when they come on stage they completely change the atmosphere of the room they play in. Its probably the most positive drum and bass experience you can have. My highlights being ‘Untold’ and ‘Tower of Love’ from Makoto’ ‘Souled Out’ album, laced with Shelley Deeizm’ live vocals. As always both came sporting DroneBoy as they have done since we launched two years ago, Deeizm sporting the brand new DBL Vest. Our boy James Ellaway aka Lung launched his new EP on Med School called ‘Why Does Anyone Ever Do Anything?’ which is a must have and available to purchase on itunes or Hospital Records website. Thanks to Dan for an awesome night and Phil Williams for the photographs below.

PS Shelley is expecting a baby, so we wish her and the baby the best life possible and hope this isn’t the last time both of them swing by Cardiff. Shelley is also playing a free concert in Buffalo, Cardiff this Wednesday, so if your about, come over.
